STACEY KENT: Dreamer in Concert
Blue Note, 2012

JAZZ VOCALS – Very nice live set from Kent, who sings standards in English, French and Portuguese, also playing guitar alongside a fine quartet. She has one of those classic, easily recognizable voices, light and airy with a whispery vibrato but also featuring a subtle depth that draws you in. Tracks 3 & 10 are modern tunes with lyrics by novelist Kazuo Ishiguro. Watch out for copious applause at start/end of tracks.

All quite nice. Fo’s Picks: 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12

1. 7:29 – first relaxed, then breezy
2. 4:02 – in French; super-cool vibe
3. 6:19 – an airy, romantic ballad
4. 4:07 – cute & sassy jazz stroll
5. 5:33 – soft, lovely bossa nova
6. 4:00 – fun, bouncy Jobim classic
7. 3:37 – sweet, sexy stroll: so nice!
8. 4:27 – hushed flow in Portuguese
9. 5:16 – balmy bossa nova
10. 5:29 – modern and wide-ranging
11. 5:19 – slow Gershwin classic
12. 4:56 – upbeat jazz-samba
13. 4:32 – cool-toned, in French
14. 5:47 – after-hours ballad
