I Hear A Rhapsody
Solo piano jazz. Disc 1 features classics by the likes of Ellington, Monk, and Cole Porter. Disc 2 are all originals, except for the Eubie Blake classic “All of You” (track 6). It’s a fabulous demonstration of her talent as both performer and composer. She moves effortlessly from emotive and gentle to driving and passionate. And her technique would be welcome in any classical concert hall. |
*1. Midtempo classic gets modern phrasing and dynamic keywork.
2. Slow w/some inventive flourishes that propel it past ballad.
*3. This Jerome Kern classic get a modern bop makeover. Mid/up.
4. Slow/med medley for former mentor. Varying tempos, lots of heart
*5. Trilling, percussive keys (a la Monk), a solid mie/up tour de force.
6. Slow romance, picks up. A nice blend of gentle and powerful.
*1. Perhaps more classical than jazz, slow and moving. (Quiet)
*2. A medley inspired by her tour of Africa. Slow & then it drives.
*3. Quirky intro starts slow, gets busy. Unpredictable & so good.
4. Slow, very quiet at times, but lyrical and smooth as silk.
5. Another slow, reflective track, picks up later w/a flourish.
*6. Sweetly warm, mostly midtempo w/a playful air.
