Alland Byallo: Tragic Acid Label: Bad Animal
Former San Francisco resident Alland Byallo (and occasional guest DJ here at KZSU) released this acid-house-inspired EP and expands it with some remixing contributions. Alland now lives in Berlin, and that's a huge loss for SF. Alland melds the SF underground's penchant for acid-house, and throws in techno flavors by Euro remixers. He starts with a main track #1, "Tragic Acid", that is partly an acid throwback and also a heavy hitting club thumper. Varoslav & Gabbi Lopez take it out there with futuristic and intricate remixes in #2 & #5. And I think the "You're Told" track #3 is good, but the #4 remix by Basic Soul Unit is a dirty dominatrix, as in "(Do as) You're Told". Try them all, and I think the strongest tracks are 1,4,5.
1. 8:37 Deep rolling bassline with a dubby electro effect and an analog acid bath in the middle. Closes w/ some soulful vocals and blippy synths. Good techy deep house.
2. 6:51 Remix of #1 that's stripped-down and more bouncy, and somehow more chaotic and edgy. Madness that you gotta like.
3. 7:20 Flittering percussive effects and a cut-up vocal sample, techy and bouncy at the same time.
4. 6:03 A mad acid remix that's not as beat-heavy, very dirty analog and not straight-up dancey but certainly brain-grinding. A neat remix that is somehow devoid of 808 kicks.
5. 7:56 This remix of #1 really goes out there - sci-fi techno and bubbly effects, some spacey synths, not too thumpy. Intricate layering of electronics.
