Deepchild: Riyadh (remixes) Label: Thoughtless Music

The original single is fantastic, a workup that includes elements of techno, acid, and hints of Middle Eastern sounds. Therefore it is up to 4 different remixers to add their spin on it. I loved the original (#1), a favorite off the Deepchild album. As for the remixes, the clear winners are #3 (Rennie Foster's) and #4 (Derek Marin). #5 (Abgeschoben) is solid too and gets better with repeated listens.

1. Bouncy minimal-techno. Nice mix of bleeps & blurps & synth melodies in a very catchy dance track, kind of exotic sounding. SO GOOD.
2. Remix that lets the synth do most of the work, long and doesn't really take us anywhere - but perhaps hypnosis is the point
3. Remix that concentrates on the analog bass (acid) portion of the original track, and as an acid-house track it stands up well
4. Exotic dub remix that mixes dub with the Middle-Eastern flavors of the original track, pretty funky & cool
5. Techno remix that is perfect for the 3AM portion of the rave, has a great rolling bassline and some neat blippy effects
