COLL: MOTOR - Man Made Machine Remixes Label: CLR

MOTOR is a two-man techno outfit from Berlin, Bryan Black and Oly Grasset. They have a full-length album out called "Man Made Machine" which features collaborations with people like Martin Gore (Depeche Mode), the legendary Gary Numan, Douglas McCarthy (Nitzer Ebb), and others. While we don't have the album, we actually have a few of the originals and some phenomenal remixes in the techno/industrial genre. Tracks 1-3 feature the vocals of Billie Ray Martin, tracks 4-6 feature Douglas McCarthy, and 7-9 feature Gary Numan. Track 10 is a special mix by Luke Slater. They're all very good. Definitely try the originals (1,4,7) and my favorite remixes are 2,6,9,10.

1. The vocals of Bille Ray Martin sound a lot like Grace Jones here. Great electro-pop infused with techno edges. Sultry and moody.
2. Solid percussive techno, very little semblance to the original. Dark ambience and builds slowly. Stands up on its own as a techno track by Pfirter.
3. Dirty and heavy industrial-infused remix. The vocals are kind of secondary to the main sludgy & rough (but good) & distinctive Monoloc sound.
4. Grim. Gloomy and sludgy. Heavy slow broken beats. Dark mix by DJ Emerson/Angel Costa. This one shows off Douglas McCarthy's (Nitzer Ebb) voice the best.
5. Dark industrial male vocals, driving bass, has a hint of Dutch progressive techno, remixed by Peter van Hoesen.
6. Grinding bass throughout this meaty track, stays true to the industrial spirit, a nice hard-hitting remix by Brian Sanhaji.
7. Wonderful New Wave meets today's electro-tech. Gary Numan's distinctive vox is great.
8. Crushing hard broken-beat & buzzing industrial effects over Numan's robo voice. Hard-hitting remix by Drumcell.
9. Very little semblance of Numan's voice here on this beat-centric techy Xhin remix. But this solid and aggressive techno track stands on its own quite well.
10. Great electro-tech featuring the remix work of Luke Slater. Crunchy hard beats with blippy tonal melody. Gets inside your head...
