ALT FOLK. AMERICANA. Side project by several members of The Decemberists (no Colin Meloy). Annalisa Tornfelt adds violin and nice lead vocals. Tracks are a rough mix: some very good songs, some unfinished-sounding experiments, some just fooling around. No FCC issues. 1 Mid-tempo. Scary-movie organ. Does not provide suitable intro into #2. (0:25) 2 ** Mid-slow. Like a trad British-Isle folk song. Accordion, violin, un-snared drums. (4:05) 3 ** Very fast. Lively, fun instrumental with fiddle, guitar, mandolin, accordion, bells. (2:57) 4 * Mid-fast. Happy country-pop tune with pleasant vocal, elec guitar, fiddle, organ. (3:08) 5 Silly noise making. Guessing there’s a saw, a tub, not sure. (0:30) 6 Fast. Lover’s lament. Guitars, violin, accordion, drums. Old-fashioned, lo fi sound. (3:20) 7 Mid-fast. Ragtime, saloon-sound piano. then old-time tune traded between guitar & accordion. (3:27) 8 Mid-tempo. Like background to a sinister silent movie. Guitar & accordion. (2:55) 9 * Slow. Pretty love-sick song. Very good vocal. Two acoustic guitars (one w slide), accordion. (3:38) 10 * Mid-tempo. Instrumental folk dance with violin, cello, guitar. (1:26) 11 Mid-slow. Terrible sound, like singing through a hollow tube. (2:49) 12 * Mid-slow with bit of swing. Lyrics like classic folk song. Accordion, fiddle, acoustic guitar. (4:11) 13 Fast. Like a Eastern European folk dance. Keyboards, stringed instrument, whistles. (4:53) 14 * Mid-tempo. Pretty country-pop song named for The Band’s keyboard player (who committed suicide). Very nice vocal. Gentle accompaniment on guitar and fiddle. (3:50) 15 Slow. Very soft, quiet. Acoustic guitar and cello. Some non-verbal vocalization. (7:51) 16 ** Slow. Beautiful, sad folksong. Lovely singing. Acoustic guitar, pump organ. Fade out at 3:38. Hidden: Begin again ~11:25. Circus organ, then ugly sounds: snore, groan, scrape. (19:37 track total) |
