RETRO CAMPY RHYTHM & BLUES. The Bodice Rippers third EP (the first is in Zookeeper) features sexed-up female lead vocals, a guitar-bass-drums core, and raunchy horns. Think of 40s/50s “rhythm” acts and put Amy Winehouse in front. The lyrical themes (mobsters, gambling, femmes fatale) border on and sometimes cross into novelty.

No FCC issues.

1 * Mid-tempo. A bluesy crawl across the bar led by baritone sax & piano. The singer sings her lungs out and gambles with love. (3:33)

2 * Mid-fast cha-cha beat. Lots of brass (bari sax, trombone, trumpet) gives this one a “hot” old-timey sound. Add brokenhearted lyrics. (3:51)

3 A mid-tempo tango. Complex story of a Mata Hari-like character’s involvement in espionage, coups-d’état, and sexual exploits. Over-the-top sinister singing. May appeal to folks who like kooky and offbeat. (4:22)

4 Mid-tempo waltz time with an “oom-pah-pah” sound. Loud, noisy & busy. Very silly. There’s a calliope in the bridge. Sort of a mess. (2:41)

5 * Mid-tempo. Powerful, vampy singing. Think of Peggy Lee doing “Fever” but turn it way up. Lots of baritone & tenor saxes, a strong drumbeat, and a kazoo. (4:34)
