Johannes Brecht: Holla EP Label: Sunday Music
Johannes Brecht is a classical musician who also plays bass & keyboards and has turned his attentions to producing dance music. The resulting EP was picked up by Sunday Music, a label run by a legendary European house DJ, Henrik Schwarz. The 3-track EP is incredibly diverse, and is a nice showcase of musicianship for Brecht. I especially liked #1 (Holla), a synth-driven deep-house track, and #3 (People), a very exotic and African-influenced track. Excellent and diverse throughout.
1. "Holla": A synth-driven deep house track with a catchy melody that flows very well. This is a very organic track that evolves nicely with great synths throughout.
2. "Bob": This track is a bit more stripped-down, with solid chunky beats. Loose, a bit sparse (in a good way), kind of mesmerizing.
3. "People": A chorus of kids singing over a West-African-Calypso influenced track. Exotic and wonderful. The bursts of percussion are uniquely charming and cheerful.
