M-SMOOTH Reviewed 2013-01-06
(CLEAN) 05. Kendrick Lamar - Compton f. Dr. Dre - Aftermath / Interscope Records: Kendrick Lamar has been anointed the new top dog when it comes to that West Coast G Funk Sound. When you have Dre as your mentor you are in good company. On this track Just Blaze revives a little g funk flavor for Kendrick to pay homage to where gangster rap took hip hop by storm… Compton. The track is a head nodder and you really only get the g funk feel with the chorus and at the end with the keyboard riff and the vocoder singing. If you dig that old west coast vibe from the 90’s you should like this one. – M-SMOOTH

Kendrick Lamar (ft Dr Dre) Compton Interscope / Aftermath Reviewed by Timmy Linetsky FCC Clean Crowned the new king of the west coast by Snoop Dre & UGK, Kendrick's major label debut is not only the best rap album of 2012, but possibly the best of any genre. Hype aside, Just Blaze laces a cinematic banger that pays homage to the classic West Coast G-funk sound, vocoder and all. The Dr. doesn't disappoint either. A-file this, baby. |
