Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend

Velvet Underground comes to mind, as well as later pop-psyche progenitors Dream Syndicate, who opened the door for so many others (including the likes of REM) who followed this simple recipe: Several simple chords, strummed, simple drums and bass with vocals singing things that we all understand, given the freedom to bog, be out of tune, flub up. Sounds like every band I’d see in Tucson living room parties while I was in college, post-hardcore punk, pre-grunge (mid 80’s garage/party band sound). Great stuff, will fit in with an “indie rock” set just as well as a garage psyche or noise set.

1) (3:28) low fi simple strummy rock, beat that bogs in a genuine way, feels like Lou Reed on quaaludes
2) (3:26) strummy, good lyrics, upbeat
3) (5:32) slower strum ballad
4) (3:03) upbeat strummy
5) (5:01) again, strummy but this one builds and builds, very VU
6) (4:13) a minor chord and flavor to this
7) (4:08) slightly slower, some good feeling to this, the slower phrasing
8) (4:34) a tribal pound to this
9) (3:20) the off-key vocals are really in your face on this one
10) (4:22) cool “lead” fuzzy bass
