Artist: Kirby, John Sextet Album: Biggest Little Band In The Land Details: Jazz Ensemble from 30's and 40's. Kirby and friends exude spectacular musicianship setting the bar sky high with originals, a few classics, and jazz standards remade. No vocals. Picks: 1,3,8,10,18,20,21,22,23 FCC: NONE ~DJ Hash$wag~ 1. (2:14) Fast, An awesome jazz rendition of Haydn's Surprise Symphony #94 Mvt.2. 2. (5:14) Slow, walking bass with nice clarinet and alto sax solos. 3. (2:27) Fast, minor key, the sextet showcases how well they perform an ensemble piece. Very groovy and short. 4. (3:17) Mid, Piano solo, later heavy on muted trumpet and clarinet. Punchy. 5. (2:28) Fast, Plays Dixie at the very end. 6. (2:30) Fast, long muted bugle driven, minor key. 7. (3:21) Mid, Blue Skies all jazzed up. Kirby and the gang definetly make it their own. 8. (3:41) Fast, certainly a 'Nervous Breakdown'. Great alto solo and drum solo near the end. 9. (2:25) Slow, a short and dreamy melody. 10. (2:13) Mid, jazzy rendition of the famous Sextet from the 1835 tragic opera Lucia de Lammermoor, the sextet captures the beauty of the original with their own style. Fades out. 11. (2:41) Mid, Bouncy and light, clarinet solo 12. (2:56) Mid, Muted trumpet solo, more Lo-fi than other tracks 13. (3:36) Mid, good swing speed, carrying harmony and succession of solos, much more laid back than other songs 14. (3:07) Mid, piano solo, Kirby takes over with a bouncy and intriguing walking bass line. 15. (3:40) Slow, sexy muted trumpet followed by a dancing clarinet solo then alto. 16. (2:10) Mid, psuedo-latin jazz feel. 17. (3:52) Mid-slow, very romantic 18. (2:13) Mid-fast, great clarinet melody and classic conclusion 19. (2:53) Fast, traditional bass line, too fast for swing but boogieing is just divine. 20. (3:20) Mid, a happy melody, solos in succession, starts good and gets even better. 21. (4:48) Slow, Melancholy, intro reminiscent of Sheherezade(Rimsky-Korsakov), evolves into blues 22. (2:23) Fast, a busy city rhythm, evolves into latin 23. (2:42) Mid, groovy melody, muted trumpet solo 24. (2:54) mid, reserved, building conclusion |
