60-minute psychedelic tour-de-force, the latest from Brooklyn producer Christopher Merritt (under his new “Crystal Palace” alias). An overwhelming amount of psychedelic samples, noise bursts, foundsounds and field recordings all jammed and mashed together, a la the “Garden Salads” at Lag Dining Sunday-morning brunches. It’s like everything you ever loved about cassettes from the past 3 years was rehashed and rescrambled. Essential late-night listening. The a-file just got a lot weirder. RIYL: Christopher Merritt, Heat Wave, Aaron Dilloway, Hans Grüsel’s Kränkenkabinet 1. Gentle cacophony, synthesizer meltdowns, tape whirls, birdies and animals of the night. Pretty challenging, but hang in there—it’s worth it. 2. A little harsher, a few more puffs of harsh noise, but just as good. Beautiful lush ending. | ||
