Ambient pop. Recorded and loosely inspired by religious iconography and cathedrals explored while in Europe, he incorporates these themes into his woozy, effects-heavy, late night, collage-tape-DIY sound. Thomas Meluch (aka “Pioulard”) weaves back and forth between lush, dense folk-inflected pop and droning instrumental passages. Sometimes sleepy, often dense, usually intimate, Hymnal features string arrangements by Felix and guitar work by Kyle Bobby Dunn. RIYL: Memory Tapes, Peter Broderick, Trouble Books, Atlas Sound, Grizzly Bear. No FCCs noted.

*1. Sustained cathedral organ and warm blankets of voice. (3:00)
2. Strummy acoustic guitar dripping in reverb and shuffling along. (3:45)
3. Slow chamber folk pop cycle with start stop rhythm. (3:02)
4. Grainy piano instrumental tape. (1:06)
5. Chipper and bouncy, but still restrained. (3:56)
6. Droney, foreboding instrumental wash (6:13)
7. Found sounds, tape hiss, plingy strumming, light gait. (2:48)
*8. Lo-fi tape pop with light drum machine. (3:15)
*9. Swirly pretty atmospherics/ambient. (3:32)
10. Up-tempo fingerpicked folky warmth. Peter Broderick. (3:18)
*11. Clanging church bells gives way to hypnotic instrumental. (5:29)
*12. Hovering, blissful woozy 3am pop trance. (2:21)
