Aoife O’Donovan “Fossils” Label: Yep Roc Records Joseph Reviewed 12/26/13 Excellent debut solo release from lead singer of the progressive string band Crooked Still. All of the tracks are quite fine. Blend of folk, country, and some light rock. No FCC violations detected 1 – (3:36) Lay My Burden Down* Up-tempo rendition of O’Donovan original. 2 – (3:16) Briar Rose* Slow, spare ballad, very nice. 3 – (3:52) Thursday’s Child* Mid-up-tempo folk rocker, really good. 4 – (3:20) Red & White & Blue & Gold* Slow love ballad, pretty pedal steel. 5 – (4:22) Beekeeper* Mid, rocker, forceful, slashing electric guitars. 6 – (3:28) Fire Engine* Up-tempo country rock, danceable. 7 – (4:05) Pearls* Mid-up-tempo, pretty images, lovely vocals. 8 – (5:20) Glowing Heart* Moody & reflective love song. 9 – (3:45) I’m Alone* Softer love ballad but still forceful, very pretty. 10 – (4:17) Oh, Mama* Slow, smoldering anthem. | ||
