EXPERIMENTAL DRUMS

One-man performances by percussionist Justin DeHart of works by four different composers (see listing on back cover and notes [by composer or performer] on inside).

All instrumental; No FCC issues.

1 Mid-fast to very fast. Rhythm making on 4-5 tuned snare-less drums. Abstract & passionless; no hint of World music here. The pattern changes every few minutes, but at this length it gets tedious. (15:09)
2 ** Mid-tempo to very slow. Tuned drums again, but also a wooden chromatic instrument (xylophone or similar) plus tympani, bass drum, chimes, triangle, wood blocks. Variation in tempo, tone, texture and rhythm makes for a very interesting piece (especially in the second half). (13:32)
3 * Very slow. Extremely austere. A random series of bangs, bongs, and clangs. The most experimental, avant-garde piece of the set. (11:24)

Tracks 4-7: * a suite for an electrified, chromatic instrument (vibraphone or similar). This could pass for avant-garde classical, avant-garde jazz, or just experimental. The tracks are very similar; not much to tell ‘em apart. Throw the dice and pick.
4 * Slow. A more-or-less tonal melody. Mysterious. (5:40)
5 * Very slow. Very minimal. Somewhat more dissonant than #4. (5:51)
6 * Very slow. Notes sound random, a bit like an early 20C twelve-tone composition. (6:12)
7 * Slow. Perhaps the most interesting of the four. One can discern two melodies (one high, one low) in a dissonant counterpoint. (6:36)
