The Mavericks released 5 albums in the ’90‘s and one in 2003; this is their first album in 10 years and it’s a killer. Genre-bending stuff including Tex-Mex, honky-tonk, country, rock, blues, reggae, etc. Instrumentation of gtr, percussion, horns, accordion, etc. For fans of Tom Russell, John Doe, Roy Orbison, Gogol Bordello, Calexico, Tex-Mex. Another Album-Of-The-Year candidate. An absolutely great work of art. Play it all. No FCC’s.

*My Favorites*: Every one.

1. (4:21) Mid. Upbeat tex-mex, reggae, country romp.
2. (3:34) Mid. Urgent rocker, big gtr, big sound. Killer.
3. (3:30) Mid. Mellower, but big, country-mex, cool accordion.
4. (4:29) Mid. Surfy vibe, plodding beat, dramatic.
5. (3:33) Slow / Mid. Beautiful heartwrenching ballad.
6. (3:06) Mid. Upbeat, easy-going country, tex-mex.
7. (3:58) Mid. Jumpy, energetic south-of-the-border romp.
8. (3:21) Slow / Mid. Near-loungey lament w/ hypnotic vibe.
9. (2:38) Mid. Mellower w/ percussion, accordion, great vcl.
10. (3:07) Mid. Reggae and calypso vibes.
11. (3:26) Mid. Upbeat rockabilly-ish, ’50’s r’n’r, r & b.
12. (5:05) Mid. Funky tex-mex w/ great accordion.
13. (8:17) Slow / Mid. Hypnotic w/ measured vcls. Sublime.
14. (4:27) Mid. Spanish version of #4. Surfy, dramatic.
