Sexually suggestive lyrics are balanced with genuine sentiments of respect : “Other girls stressin’ on hair and their complexion/But not you, you’re perfect because of your imperfections/Been a lifetime since I met someone so real/Which is why it’s so hard putting words to what I feel”. Set against a sonic backdrop of Jamaican airhorns, neck snapping drum programming, and a heavily groovy bassline and a vocal sample that expresses the song’s title, “ILYS” provides a relatively fresh take on an old subject.
