The Mule was just 2 years old in 1996 during this blazing 3 day run in Athens, Atlanta and Macon. Selections here from the 6 disc set. It’s the late Allen Woody on bass, Matt Abts on drums and Warren Haynes on gtr and vocals. It’s southern r’n’r with a funky undercurrent. For fans of ’70’s r’n’r, heavy jambands, Allman Brothers. FCC #9. *My Favorites*: 1, 4, 5, 10, 11. 1. *(8:54) Mid. Funky, mean, searing, channeling ’70’s power vibe. 2. (6:00) Mid. A bit heavier, trancey, alternates mellow / loud. 3. (7:19) Mid. More mellow / loud, some nice gtr noodling. 4. *(4:34) Mid. Really funky ‘n’ rockin’, cool cymbal strikes. 5. *(6:57) Mid. Mean-ass gtr, funky bass, drivin’ drums, killer. 6. (6:22) Slow / Mid. Blind Faith classic. Mellow, then rocks out. 7. (6:22) Mid. Heavy gtr, gets jammy. 8. (8:11) Slow / Mid. Mostly mellow mood, jammy w/ bass solo. 9. (7:16) Mid. FCC ‘fuck’.
