FOLK / AMERICANA SINGER-SONGWRITER
Ritter’s seventh album features an emotional, autobiographical set of songs, performed and produced in a rather spare (mostly acoustic) manner. The material covers the breakup of his marriage, the resulting anger and sadness, and then finding someone new.
No FCC issues.
Slow. Just vocal & strumming. Sad lyric. Segues right into #2. (0:57)
* Mid fast. Voice, acoustic guitars, a bit of wooden flute. Pleasant, cute, ironic. (2:27)
* Lovely ballad. Good singing; finger-style guitar & strings. Heartbroken lyric. (2:48)
Mid-tempo. Paul Simon-like lyric. Horn accompaniment is a bit silly. (4:26)
Mid-tempo. Simple, cute folk song. Acoustic guitar & organ. (3:39)
* Mid-fast. Smart lyric: he’s found someone new but still holds a grudge. (4:28)
Mid-tempo. Acoustic guitar & organ. Introspective. (3:21)
Mid-tempo. Brighter sound on guitar. Ocean waves in background. (3:16)
Slow & sad. Just voice & guitar. Low fi like a home recording. (4:27)
** Mid-fast. Tricky, syncopated. Excellent acoustic guitar, steel guitar. (2:51)
** Mid-tempo. He’s feeling a bit better. Fuzzy electric guitar for a change. (2:03)
*** Mid-tempo. Great folk-rock sound with larger group. Happiest song here. (4:41)
Slow, quiet finale. Voice (treated), acoustic guitar, hand drums, organ. (4:08)
