Amazing album. Seriously. Melding together sounds of dance heavy techno which gets dropped in clubs, experimental ambient sounds, and keyboard driven calm tracks. John Hopkins has released yet another album which will be on many “best album of the year” lists (including mine, easily). Give this a listen if you like techno, experimental, or just anything using electronic sounds. Can’t go wrong with any of the tracks, but my personal favorites are listed below.

Picks: 1, **2, 5, 6, 7, 8
FCC’s: none detected

*1. (4:48) Breathtaking moody techno with lots of little glitches, nice use of strong bass, but still beautifully melodic.
***2. (7:36) Chugging, meandering synths with darker techno. Shakers and drums, ethereal vocals, what more do you want. Gets Berlin banging around 5 minutes. So fucking good.
3. (5:29) A little quieter of a track, dramatic keyboard alongside footsteps through an empty hospital... Gets chunkier and skittering.
4. (9:21) Dark, pounding, breathing, loopy. Gets very spacey, like, cosmic and sonic journey kind of level.
*5. (4:57) Calmer, oceanic experimental track (read: not techno). Very soothing and ambient.
*6. (5:45) Calm, sunny and light song with interesting noises and ambient buzzing. Keyboards are running alongside you in the meadow.
*7. (11:54) Building, bouncing, lush techno gleaming with warmth and serotonin. Female oo’s and little bloops make a much welcome entrance. Gets haunting and echo-y in the end.
*8. Beautiful, melancholic keyboard alongside churning experimental sounds, lush waves, and softly sung fem vox. Wonderful closing track to a solid album.
