Honey Locust Honky Tonk

Hook-heavy rock n roll with trippy, clever lyrics. Most songs are mid-tempo, guitar, bass and drums. At this point, you probably know what Robert Pollard (of Guided By Voices) sounds like. This album sounds like Robert Pollard. True to form, the best songs are the short ones that grab your attention and then abruptly end. Ephemera, dust in the wind, etc. On the whole though, the songs feel fuller, less fractured than the GBV you know and love. FCC clean.

14. (1:53) feels like a ballad but isn't. Kind of menacing.
15. (2:25) plodding, theatrical, turns into drunken singalong
16. (2:31) eighth note strumming, confusing grammar
17. (3:36) jangley power pop, cool bass bends
