Lively bop suite for 6 parts, a tribute to the Cass Corridor neighborhood of Detroit, a neighborhood of both crime and artistic vibrancy. Composer/pianist Gwinnell has assembled a strong band and gives each a chance to shine. Tight arrangements, solid playing, sophisticated compositions. A rich and layered release. Great stuff.

1. Too short, dramatic and strong. W/rich layers.
*2. Instant energy to this hard bop drive w/great work from all.
*3. Another great hard bop track, this one swinging and full of energy w/a nod to Charlie Parker’s “Confirmation.”
4. Slow and melodic with an air of sad reflection. Nicely fluid.
*5. Upbeat swing w/nicely percussive horns & solid keys.
6. Starts slow & quiet, picks up, slows down. Coolly cinematic.
*7. Bright, energetic bop w/great layers of horns, keys, perc.Good solos
*8. Complex composition that mixes bop w/free jazz. Mostly mid.
9. Suite over. A warm ballad w/tight solos from all.
10. Midtempo swing w/solid work from all, esp the sax.
11. Slow and dreamy. Gwinnells’s piano shines.
