Piano, bass, and drum trio with lots of sophisticated style. A nice mix of modern tunes and revisits to the great American songbook. Each musician is top notch but Stephens’s piano work really shines. This guy is good. *1. Fast and fiery w/great piano work. A wonderfully complex track. *2. A classic, dusted off and given a new coat of paint. Mostly mid. 3. A blues tune given a jazz makeover. Relaxed but fluid. 4. Slow and sad classic with a warm and lyrical fragility. *5. A strong mostly midtempo bluesy walk. Well played by all. 6. Starts slow, picks up, gets chaotically interesting. *7. Usually a ballad, here updated and turned into a midtempo groove. *8. Fast and furious keys highlight this layered, uptempo track. | ||
