Incredible debut from Tennessee native. From the arrangements to the production to June’s countrified heavenly powerful pipes, this album is hauntingly penetrating. Produced by Kevin Augunas (Edward Sharpe, Florence + The Machine) and Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach (who’s also produced Dr. John, JEFF the Brotherhood, The Ettes) it has that Black Keys vibe throughout, but the soulful, r’n’b, country, gospel stylings are equally present. June plays gtr, banjo, ukelele and her voice is absolutely stunning. Another one of my top albums of the year for sure. No FCC’s. *My Favorites*: Every one. 1. (3:08) Mid. Trancey, folky, funky, hip w/ horns. 2. (3:35) Slow / Mid. Sparse w/ ukelele, back vcls, echo. 3. (3:52) Slow / Mid. Hypnotic heavenly hymn-like blissful. 4. (3:16) Slow / Mid. Echoey vcl, easy-strummed gtr, sparse. 5. (3:58) Mid. Funky, r’n’b, hip-hoppy trance glide. 6. (3:15) Mid. Tribute to Tennessee w/ steel gtr, mandolin, back vcls. 7. (5:17) Mid. Title track. Halloween organ, r’n’b vibe, killer gtr. 8. (3:04) Mid. Heavenly, sparse countrified gospel w/ back vcls. 9. (3:18) Mid. Black Keys vibe, soulfully rockin’ and funky. 10. (3:09) Slow / Mid. Heavy vcl echo, ethereal, hypnotic w/ slide gtr. 11. (7:59) Mid. Nice folky tune, then silence form 4:45 remaining ‘til 3:40, then acoustic version of #2, sparse and heavenly. | ||
