Fans of PJ Harvey, Portishead, Lee Hazelwood, Ennio Morricone, Martha Davis (Motels) take note: Calvi writes and plays amazing guitar, drinking from the same high dark cinematic drama well as all things Nick Cave, early 4AD Records. These compositions are laced heavily with big orchestral drama, string arrangements, but just when you think she’s going all cinema she whips out some killer noise guitar and rock (see track 8). Great stuff, picking up where PJ Harvey left off.
1) (3:34) dark restrained, subtle sultry
2) (3:39) big pounding drama, soaring and cinematic
3) (3:17) electrobeat feel, sultry vocs a la trip hop portishead etc
4) (2:55) cool intensity, dark tribal but with searing edges
5) (4:01) very dark and almost ballady with lots of cinematic orchestral arrangements bordering on Spaghetti Western
6) (2:43)a brighter cheery tone, sorta, could pass for indie rock in that it sticks mostly to guitar bass drums type arrangement
7) (4:44) very chill, whispered desperate vocs, very PJ Harvey, midway when you think its going to all rock-out it shifts into a HUGE cinematic orchestral arrangement that grows dissonant
8) (3:06) more of a big huge noisy rocker, with crazed vocs and guitar, fucking amazing
9) (5:28) with vibes and strings, carries a dark spy film qualit
10) (3:41) mostly just subtle guitar, vocals, darkness, amazing minimalism
11) (2:09) chill, minimal, almost a capela, lovely
