Said the Whale is an indie rock band from Vancouver. Their songs feature male vocals and fresh poetic lyrics. In 2011, they won the prize for New Group of the Year at the 2011 Juno Awards. Their sound conjures the Shins mixed with Jukebox the Ghost and Dr. Dog.

1. More Than This 1:24— slower tempo; piano and vocal based track.
2. Mother 3:11—FCC ‘Fuck’ in the beginning of the song (unfortunate because this is a stand-out track); strong rhythmic base line yields a bouncy tempo
3. Narrows 3:29— acoustic guitar; guitar and snare drum produce an up-tempo feel; notable vocal clarity; piano melodies
4. I Love You 2:46—One of my favorite tracks; harder rock with strong drum beat and electric guitar; almost yelling vocals; very up-temp, high energy song
5. Safe to Say 2:51— Lighter, floating vocals; acoustic guitar creates most of the rhythm, very minimal drum; This track in particular sounds a lot like the Shins
6. Resolutions 2:49—sort of dreamy feel, rap interlude at the end of the song
7. Willow 3:43—rhythmic, hooky guitar and drums; also a lot like the Shins; slows down towards the middle with smooth vocals
8. On the Ropes 2:41—Another of my favorite tracks; plucky guitar intro gives it really contagious energy; electric guitar and rhythmic drum; Slightly produced sounding vocals
9. I Could Smoke 2:26— Hooky guitar and bass; Lighter electric guitar and drum; dance-y backbeat
10. Oh K, Okay 2:52— Softer sound but still has a robust tempo, sounds particularly like Jukebox the Ghost’s or Dr. Dog’s slower songs
11. Helpless Son 3:10— Sounds a like Simon and Garfunkel, especially in the vocals; Soft, hooky guitar; builds up sound landscape throughout song
12. The Weight of the Season 3:10— Slower, more melancholic feel
