Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2013-11-26
Stoney doom rock, with near-psyche/ambient elements in the echo’ey vocals/use of noise, that as it progresses establishes itself firmly as doom with the last 30 minute track in all its glory. Like a slowed down Nebula or Fu Manchu, or a sped up Burning Witch. Heavy guitar/bass/drums with vocals that aren’t “cookie monster” or scream, instead closer to psyche or classic Ozziness. No wanky guitars, just good strong heavy rock with interjections of spooky acoustic guitar a la Death in June/Swans, and ambient field sounds.

1) (6:38) very Ozzy/Sabbath esp in the voc phrasing, nice slow/mid paced head nodder/bowl cooker
2) (9:23) another big epic rocker, bordering on psyche in how echo’ed out the vocs are, ¾ way in a false ending leads to a doom, nice head nodding plod
3) (8:00) getting more plodding, heavy stoner/pre doom, you choose
4) (6:57) slow Swan’ish acoustic guit plod and effeminate vocs
5) (13:46) big epic doomy/stoney plod w/ that goes faster, back and forth
6) (30:30) Heres the doom you requested: long track that begins very quietly with spooky atmospherics, dreary acoustic guitar strumming, then the blast of doom, devolves to a feedback drone, returns to acoustic guitar then seals the deal with 10-15 minutes of doom into which spooky atmospherics eventually creep over into a nice noise out-tro
