Local Bay Area acoustic duo Melody (guitar) and Jacob (mandolin, guitar, banjo)
deliver a great new release. Lots to like (and play) here.
1 – (3:04) We Made It Home* Mid-tempo tune, vocals just soar.
2 – (3:57) Retinue Down-to-earth love song, very nice.
3 – (5:08) Betelgeuse* Mid-tempo semi-spiritual song, pretty.
4 – (5:44) Black Grace* Slow secular hymn, Laurie Lewis on harmony vocals, great.
5 – (4:10) Come On Mule Mid-tempo song about farming, OK.
6 – (4:09) Billy The Champ* Fanciful song about ex-zoo chimp in the Sequoia Park
Zoo in Eureka, CA. Oddly affecting.
7 – (5:23) O Heartbreaker* Slow song about heartbreak, soft music, lovely.
8 – (5:01) Graceland* Up-tempo, very good cover of Paul Simon’s hit, fine vocals.
9 – (3:29) Sweet Sunny South* Slow, somber rendition of traditional bluegrass song,
forceful vocals by Jacob.
10 – (2:48) Yellow Haired Girl Just so-so.
11 – (2:44) Little Blue Caboose Up-tempo bluegrass original. Decent.
12 – (4:59) Mississippi Moon Slow waltz about a lost dog, written by Peter Rowan.
Just so-so.
