Glasser – Interiors
Dreamy Synth-Pop. Legal name: Cameron Mesirow. Interiors is her second full-length studio album, recorded in a small windowless room, partly inspired by her move from LA to Manhattan (though the songs seem more often to be about emotional interiors than physical ones). Bjork-like, with slightly more conventional vocal stylings. Or like Frou Frou with fewer highs-and-lows. Definitely an album to sit (or lie or lay, this is not activity music) and listen to, whether you’re letting the sounds wash over you or tuning into the lyrics. No FCCs. –eme o.
*1. Shape [4:57] The Bjork is strong in this one. The music is kind of energetic, there’s a hint of waves moving quickly in and out, which makes sense since there’s a water theme in the lyrics..
2. Design [3:15] Love song for flawed fruit. “Your taste makes me ask again if there is a God, and if it's divine design, that I should rip you up.” Celestial ‘ah’s. Another type of water theme, this time more reminiscent of dripping.
*3. Landscape [3:59] Slow, this love more calm. A sound that could represent exploratory fingers. Aching violin. “I’m in your landscape and I don’t want to go back to mine.” Sudden silence at ~2:51, song fades back in on a faster tempo.
4. Forge [4:32] Starts off kind of like disco funk (kind of). “Hole in my head. Plane crash in bed.” Not sure what this one’s about.
5. Window I [1:27] Starts simply, singing with sparse sound. Ends with a fuller sound, no vox.
6. Keam Theme [4:11] Music a bit Peter Gabriel. Singing a bit Frou Frou. “How long before I know you? I won’t let it mean too much.” Wooden wind chimes.
*7. Exposure [3:41] The whole song is pretty, but my favorite part is the expressiveness of the line “Pano-ramic SPLASH”.
8. Dissect [4:14] Slow, kind of sensuous. This may be about surrender, but not in the sense of defeat.
9. Window III [1:58] Vocal with sparse sound. Choral harmony towards the end, then ~4s of silence.
*10. Window II [1:14] Instrumental
11. New Year [3:29] This song about a past love. “Maybe I’m wrong but I think we had something… How will I know if I was wrong?” Somewhat jazzy, sax makes an appearance.
12. Divide [5:31] Slow to mid (picks up steam as it goes along). Asian elements. Airy. False end ~4:30, then violins fade in, and out.
