CRAIG YAREMKO ORGAN TRIO: CYO3
OA2, 2013

ORGAN BOP – Saxophonist Yaremko teams with organist Matt King for an updated take on the classic organ combo sound: friendly, playful, sometimes bluesy, but skewed just a few degrees off-center. Guitarist Vic Juris adds tasty flavors to 3 & 5.

Fo’s Picks: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9

1. 7:02 – upbeat standard mixes up rhythms with breezy swing and a circus air
2. 9:20 – low ‘n’ sneaky: tiptoe melody, gently warped solos, nice sax work
3. 6:33 – light, toe-tapping Monk ditty with lively, bendy guitar solo, soulful sax
4. 6:48 – low, quiet glide w/alto flute, livens up with exotic solo
5. 5:56 – snappy little groove: slick organ, fluid sax lines, cool guitar
6. 6:50 – moaning Ellington/Strayhorn ballad, dragged tempo, sax solo yelps
7. 4:54 – lively stomp & organ stroll, sax twists, trades off with happy drums
8. 6:29 – hushed start, odd acrobatic melody & soprano sax, organ creeps
9. 6:54 – relaxed & wistful: very nice trio sound, picks up a moody groove
10. 5:49 – uptempo, rolling samba with flute
11. 6:00 – warm midtempo sway, with a bluesy/gospel touch, sax testifies
