SHERYL BAILEY: A Meeting of Minds
Cellar Live, 2014

ORGAN TRIO – Guitarist Sheryl Bailey leads a classic trio date of crisp, soulful bop delivered straight up, with Ron Oswanski on B3 and Ian Froman on drums. All the tunes are originals, and Bailey’s friendly, conversational tone sits front and center. Nice listening all around.

All quite good. Fo’s Picks: 1, 3, 4, 5, 9, 11, 12

1. 5:40 – vocal chatter gives way to a cool-toned trio glide
2. 4:22 – upbeat hardbop ditty, guitar & organ ride a tasty rhythm
3. 5:09 – warm, familiar-sounding jog/stroll, moves along nicely
4. 5:24 – cool, dusky sound with an optimistic streak; catchy
5. 5:18 – spins gently through shadowy theme; brisk, upbeat solos
6. 5:57 – nifty drums under a cool theme, relaxed round of solos
7. 4:41 – gentle drifting feel: organ daydreams, guitar sketches
8. 6:11 – weird tweaked abstraction turns into a spare, funky jam
9. 4:38 – light swingin’ stroll: organ & guitar solos skip along
10. 6:57 – sultry ballad, low and sneaky: guitar loops and swoops
11. 3:22 – uptempo cool bop with crisp, lively solos
12. 5:20 – happy walkin’ blues: the mood is infectious
