Maxwell Croy is one half of KZSU chart-topper En, and Sean McCann is no stranger to our A-file either. Beautiful, resonant and distinctive modern classical. Koto for sure. Violin? cello? flutes? Beautiful stuff here, an early contender for Miss Information's year end list. RIYL Kronos string quartets, Duane Pitre, Richard Skelton
***1. (8:50) Frantic but melodious koto bowing with more relaxed and swelling violin over it. Psychedelic flutes over the whole thing. Slows down and takes a breather then picks back up again in a beautiful bird call over shimmery strings
*2. (9:00) Beautiful complex animated drone swelling in and out with gradual changes in intensity. Starts off sharp and buzzy and ends with floaty flutes and low contrabass with a screach of feedback
*3. (3:37) Proud, powerful koto plucking mid tempo, lyrical violin over that
6. (6:25) Low sparse strumming and pretty piano, quiet shimmering in the distance, very relaxed
7. (4:48) Bright and shiny drone, lots of layers weaving in and out
**8. (4:01) Taunt violin as koto strums with great expectation. gets a little dissonant, rising to heaven
