Broken Gold—Residency at Hundo Beach

Review by Luis A. Apolaya

The new EP from the Austin-based indie rock quartet has a feel-good-hit-of-the-summer vibe. Anything you would expect and like from a guitar-centered indie rock band, it’s here. Recommended: 1, 2, 4. RIYL Weezer, Interpol, The Strokes.

**1. (4:00) Mid-tempo, lots of pleasant guitar distortion, as energetic as indie rock songs get, once the track starts it does not show any signs of slowing down
**2. (2:29) Mid-tempo, catchy guitar riff, worthy of an outdoor festival, builds up well to the chorus, passionate vocals
3. (2:20) Mid-tempo, chorus verse chorus plus a small instrumental break
*4. (4:21) Mid-tempo, happy guitar riff for chorus, persistent guitar buzz and subdued backup singers in the background
5. (4:13) Mid-tempo, calm instrumentation and vocals, somewhat relaxing
*6. (2:52) Mid-tempo, dat bass doe, toned-down sections build up nicely to the outburst of the chorus, Pixies meets Weezer, annoying rapid beeping for last ten seconds.
