A really gorgeous collection of tunes from the 60s and 70s mostly recorded in Luanda, capital of Angola and center of its brief but flourishing music industry. Analog Africa has collected tons of sides from the pre-civil war era, when clubs were hopping on the weekends with sexy, tropical sounds. The Portuguese influence makes this sound a lot like Brazilian music, but reverb-heavy electric guitar takes most of the melodic responsibilities. Play any track!

1. (3:35) sultry spy-soundtrack strutter, a sexy surf instrumental
2. (3:38) fast yet relaxed samba-shuffle, occasional horn accompaniment
3. (2:57) starts with a slow crooning, soon bursts into a joyous, celebratory jam--definitely a highlight!
4. (3:34) cool cyclical guitar loop under some sunshiney singing and surf melodies, exquisite stuff
5. (4:16) instrumental, mid-paced, awesome interplay between rhythm and lead guitar
6. (2:28) urgent melody explored on guitar, vocals, lots of driving energy, call-and-response verses
7. (3:05) bouncy, sexy samba groove with a slightly funky bassline; melody sounds familiar, probably Brazilian in origin
8. (2:44) even more familiar chord progression here, an instrumental hip-shaker that explores the foundations of bossa nova
9. (3:24) BONGOLOLO! Pretty much the greatest song of all time. The most upbeat, happy anthem you will ever hear. Jump around and sing along!
10. (2:36) sexy tropical jam with acoustic guitar, guiro, and what sounds like an early drum machine
11. (3:28) frantic, highly percussive samba-esque jam, crooning choruses and lots of shakers and bells
12. (4:08) sultry, mid-paced strutter; put on your shades and you’ll feel cool enough to talk to that Girl From Ipanema (or Luanda, as the case may be)
13. (3:28) Bazooka! Explosive percussion as the title indicates, manic clave and other elements carry a frantic, electrified instrumental tune.
14. (3:22) fast but somehow mellow, a sweet guitar-centric tune with some light warbling vocals
15. (5:07) the slow-dance number, a light waltz for nighttime moods, soothing vocals, but—woah! Suddenly kicks into a double-time groove halfway through. A highlight for sure.
16. (3:34) seriously badass funky bossa, ecstatic chorus, barrels along with joyous double-time energy
17. (3:26) fun tropicalia with a bit of a ska twang in the rhythm guitar
18. (4:02) swinging minor-key balladry, deeply hypnotic percussion, closer to Afro-Cuban songs in mood and structure—what a gem!
19. (3:30) chill, relaxing groove with tasteful wah-wah and chipper, fuzzy guitar leads—pseudo-psychedelic instrumental.
20. (6:20) upbeat dancefloor anthem, lots of frantic shakers and tambourines, lot of shouted repetitions of “bomba, bomba” and “ay ay ay” etc
21. (4:01) laid-back acoustic ditty, heavy resemblance to Buena Vista Social club and old-school Caribbean songs in general
