Jim Lauderdale “I’m A Song” Label: Sky Crunch Records Joseph Reviewed 7/21/14 Amazingly prolific songwriter Lauderdale checks in with a double album of country music. A couple of duds but overall high quality writing and music, and a few gems. 1 – (2:10) Let’s Have A Good Thing Together* Good country rocker. 2 – (2:40) Past It* Another good country crooner. 3 – (2:48) You’ve Got A Way All Yours* Slow love ballad, very pretty. 4 – (2:27) I’m A Song* Pretty little love song, slow-to-mid. 5 – (4:45) The Feeling’s Hanging On Slow, just so-so. 6 – (2:51) I Lost You* Good mid-tempo lament w/Buddy Miller. 7 – (3:29) Doin’ Time In Bakersfield* Fine duet w/Lee Ann Womack, excellent. 8 – (2:29) A Day With No Tomorrow Another Womack duet, OK. 9 – (3:18) End Of The World Rag Up-tempo country rocker, decent. 10 – (2:49) Neon Hearts Decent tune, loneliness & bars. 11 – (3:06) I Wish You Loved Me OK lament, pokey. 12 – (2:11) Makin’ Honey* Mid-tempo, blissful love, nicely done. 13 – (3:21) Let Him Come To You* Mid-tempo jazzy number, fine. 14 – (2:27) Today I’ve Got The Yesterdays Duet w/Patty Loveless, decent. 15 – (3:23) There’s No Shadows In The Shade* Excellent, reflective song. 16 – (3:22) Hope And Find Pokey, not recommended. 17 – (4:30) The Day The Devil Changed* Fine song about personal redemption. 18 – (2:51) The King Of Broken Hearts* Great classic country, best cut on album. 19 – (3:05) The World Is Waiting Bizarre lounge-ey sound, strange. 20 – (3:41) We Will Rock Again* Nice country rocker, mid-tempo. |
