1990 Weds Night Live performance of East Bay band that pretty much invented pop punk while they were still playing Gilman and small venues. Amazingly fun performance and excellent recording (transferred from old long lost reel to reel by me). Guys are just off the hook with the banter, total performers who if not for their legendary high energy I’d think were on coke or speed. Girl crazy silly banter abounds, with lots of great “this is Green Day on KZSU’s WNL” that’s worth some station cred points. Even some healthy “Cal vs. Stanford” and “East bay vs. West Bay” shots. Sure, Squirrel Bait invented pop punk 5 years before them (but they were too serious) and Nirvana channeled the Beatles (but they were too heavy and morose). Like it or not, Green Day withstood all tests and the public voted them kings of pop punk. Killer recording, from when Billy Joe Armstrong was just simply “Bill”. Really captures the simple fact that: Bill could really play his fucking guitar and those three guys sing catchy songs really well together.

Pretty much all songs are their trademark 4/4 pop punk, hooky choruses/melody, driving Les Paul Marshall combo attacks, unless otherwise noted. No track times here (see back).

1) intro
2) self introduction and next song at end as well
3) A thousand hours
4) In The Library - some banter at end
5) great track to play cuz the intro has the “youre listening to GD on KZSU” and the banter at the end has some hilarious snarky comments about KZSU and tit for tat fun
6) slower rockin, out-tro banter
7) KZSU ID at end of song
8) old PSAs
9) interlude with the band telling stories, refers to Billy as “Bill” (dunno why I find that funny)
10) KZSU ID in the intro
11) cover of a swampy Operation Ivy song
12) WNL KZSU LID by the band in the intro and outro
13) weird comedic “PSA” by band
14) “slow” song, heavy triplet rock
15) Bill says “don’t be racist, its not cool” in intro, fun stuff
16) long silly story in the intro, fun stuff, poke at Stanford vs Cal by band, they say goodbye in the intro etc
17) PSA
18) prerecorded 7” song “The One I Want”, cool stuff that erroneously starts at 33rpm
19) band interview, the silliness abounds!!
