MAINSTREAM JAZZ The American label debut of a young tenor saxophonist from Chile. She leads a trio with Francisco Mela on drums. The compositions are mostly originals (save for #3 and #10). No FCC issues. 1 ** Fast. Catchy. Tricky syncopated sections alternate with melodic ones. (4:58) 2 Mid-slow. Disjoint sections. Meandering sax leads, scattered drums, quiet bass. (5:45) 3 Slow. Breathy but pretty (Getz-like) take on an old Tin Pan Alley love song. (5:34) 4 * Mid-fast. Lively tune. Nice melodic sax; strong, steady bass and drums. (5:10) 5 Mid-slow. Bass solo for 1:45. Then sax enters, but tune never finds its groove. (6:09) 6 Mid-tempo. Drum solo for 2 min. Then sax wanders around aimlessly. (5:50) 7 Mid-slow. Long, legato lines on the sax. Snappy drums.
