– General Description: Saxophone. Drums. That’s it – proving that less is sometimes more. Wilson and Nash do not leave melody behind. There are two Ellington classics – “Caravan” and “The Mooche” – plus Ornette Coleman’s “Happy House”, two different medleys of Monk tunes, Eddie Harris’ “Freedom Jazz Dance,” Fats Waller’s “Jitterbug Waltz” and a closer of Dizzy Gillespie’s “Woody ’N’ You” (also three Wilson originals). “Black Gold ” is Wilson’s tribute to Pittsburgh’s cultural heritage and iconic sports teams, the bluesy “RCJG" pays homage to jazz masters Ron Carter and Jimmy Giuffre. Definitely worth a listen.

5. (2:20) Row Twelve - bright; solo sax popping from one note to the next before settling down to a smoother ride then back to popping (Steve Wilson)
6. (4:42) Black Gold - spirited; sounds full compared to the previous track, smoother sound by sax, fuller drums, gets kind of whiny 2/3 in (Steve Wilson)
7. (5:24) Jitterbug Waltz - languid to quick; sax sings a nice little descending tune, then drums start picking the pace up (Thomas "Fats" Waller)
8. (3:45) Freedom Jazz Dance - spirited drum solo (Eddie Harris)
