Czech singer/songwriter, recorded this in Iceland. Full choir/strings/percussion, rock opera elements mashed up w/ “girl in a church choir” neospiritualism. Philosophical album, lyrics variations on the “individual vs. universal” timeless questions. Earnest stuff. Tori Amos meets college folk a capella. Piano ballads.
Love track 8 for when you’re in a maudlin mountain mood – hint of euro-americana. Favorites 5, 6, *8*, 10 FCC clean
Point of Creation (5:20) clang of church bells, religious singing, new age-y soundbed of organ - enya on the streets of austria. Female vocals pick up with lyrics almost 2 minutes in. Some ooo-ing. Chorus/harmony.
Time Immemorial (4:28) pretty piano melody + snare, female vocals.
The Leading Bird (4:36) low key, piano and vocals, strings pick up in latter half
Fortune Teller (6:10) syncopated, eastern-inspired.
* Without a Map (5:27) begins w/ female vocus + piano, chorus singing the lord’s prayer w/ instrumentals picks up around 4 minutes, soprano song interwoven throughout.
*Remember Who You Are (3:27) repetitive hippie invocation w/ drums and bells (Synergy flashbacks …), lyrics pick up with catchy melody reminiscent of ‘70s feminist folk rock.
Mary (3:58) soprano on soprano, piano, increasingly sweeping
**Phoenix (4:31) lovely harmony, song of love and dying love. guitar + banjo
Seasons Change (3:39) piano ballad, unintentionally (?) creepy children singing and cackling at end
*Gabriel (4:48) whale sounds + sea/foghorn to start; picks up w/ peppy trombone honk at 2:00;
This Right Here (5:27) piano ballad; ends w/ recap of track 1.
