Amper-O-Mat / By the Ruins of Babylon Label: Slusaj Najglasnije! Rob Cunningham Reviewed: 9/5/2014 Experimental music from Slovenia consisting of rapid-fire electronic beats and synthesizer, punctuated at seemingly random intervals by samples of speech and noises/sound effects. The overall effect is of a hardcore/industrial/gabber type sound sped up so fast as to transcend those genres and produce a wall of noise. This artist claims to improvise his material and record all tracks in a single take, which would go a long way in explaining the chaotic construction of these tracks. FCCs: None in English. However several vocal samples are non-English, presumably Slovenian 1) (1:41) A countdown to an explosion starts off a short collage of noise, providing a fitting opener to this EP. 2) (5:38) *** Ridiculously fast & harsh rhythmic blast beats, interspersed with Slovenian speech samples. Recommended! 3) (19:11) A journey of noise. You never know where you’ll end up next, whether it’s the crack of electronic thunder rumbling in the distance, a cash register and a dentist’s drill doing a duet, a child singing a nursery rhyme through a distorted microphone, or those jackhammer beats that keep coming back. A lengthy section in the middle sounds like speed metal run through a blender. Recommended for adventurous DJs. 4) (4:49) The closest this EP comes to a more traditional hardcore techno sound, due to the relatively “slow” BPM of around 250. Hard-hitting, industrial and relentless. |
