Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2014-11-19
With a name like Altered Labyrinth I admit I was expecting something more avante or noisy but this is some straight up unpretentious non-pandering pop, indie. Elements of XTC, early REM, later Meat Puppets, poppy MBV with bendy Adrian Belew guitar. 12 string Rickenbacker gives it a mild psyche if REM jangle (but not too much). Male vocals not annoying or in your face like so many indie rockers ruin the genre with. Brian Eno'esque vocals instead. Really good stuff, pleasant really.

1)* (0:57) brief collage intro to next song
2)* (3:21) comes across as good unpretentious indie rock
3)* (2:58) poppy and sugary belied by a nice noisy ending
4) (3:46) bendy and cool guitar, reminding me of XTC somehow
5) (3:38) slower strum, jangle, ballad almost
6) (2:12) more pop, ends cold
7) (2:56) mellow beach boys ballad tempo
8) (2:48) upbeat pop
9) (4:23) bendy gets into MBV territory at first but then solid REM (Rickenbacker 12 string effect?)
10) (2:43) more midpaced pop
11) (2:48) bendy guit is nice, mid pop
12) (2:40) mid paced but minor toned
13)* (4:03) no drums, very Eno-pop, nice noisier guitar
