genre: drums drums drums drums vocals drums drums drums drums...
MMMMM now this is an album. Off the walls drumming, powerful female vocals….and that’s pretty much it. Wildbirds & Peacedrums are a husband and wife duo who are absolute masters of their craft and it shows on “Rhythm”, their best album yet. A Visit From Drum just got its new favorite A-file present.
FCC: 3. Favorites: 9, 2, 4, 5, 8, 1
others: Tune-Yards, Adult Jazz, Cold Specks, Man Forever
1. (3:50) ** nice percussion groove and soulful female vox. Super catchy with recurring melodic sighs
2. (4:10) *** big pounding drums. awesome song. Vocals get more and more emphatic and then they throw some cowbell in there
3. (4:39) FCC “fuck” bluesy feel with prominent bass and deep vocals. Second half is really chaotic and unhinged.
4. (3:22) *** cool vocal interplay and creative percussion intro. Fast almost scat vocals. slows down and deconstructs groove
5. (2:50) *** propulsive amazing drums. this song just has so much momentum
6. (6:20) strange bleating (i can’t tell what instrument) and hectic drumming. vocals are set a little further back, on a different plane than the other elements of the song
7. (4:48) ** playful cymbals, low crooned vocals. ominous bass pulse. darker vibe.
8. (4:23) *** really intricate drum groove. big tune-yards feel
9. (5:27) *** distant insistent drums that gain in intensity. creative little vocal loops. god, those drums. might be my favorite on the record
