Album Review
DeVoss
Reviewed 2015-01-23
– General Description: Boston-based Ken Field definitely listened to the film score for Titus and is a fan of Elliot Goldenthal. Good feel for the dance music and definitely worth a play. The film music (first 3 tracks) is a little too vague and wanders without direction or memorable melody. Some fun voicing of instruments.
– FCC Compliant: YES
– Recommended Tracks: 5, 7, 4, 8
– Track Reviews:
1. (4:37) Taxonomy - tranquil; starts really quiet w/bird sounds, long minor-key manipulated tones over it
2. (8:41) Twist Of Fate - strange jazzy electronica; sudden profusion of voices over it, then various throbbing
3. (5:08) Sensorium - animated; more melodic with strings, keyboard and drum, see-saw-y
4. *** (4:03) Corteo - stately; slow caberet music, creepy but fun
5. **** (6:01) Noir - bright percussion piece, gets you moving, some electronics
6. (3:21) OnOff - slow; ship-like sounds with long tones again and double bass
7. **** (5:41) FrontBack - moderate; interesting jazzy piano, double bass, sax is in the background
8. *** (5:14) Noozy - groovin'; fast percussion bed with pops of sound on top, then a 70's-type cop show theme song appears
9. (6:01) Bed - lazy; long block chords mostly of layered and octave-shifted alto sax create a lumbering feel
10. (1:03) Sanity - fast; train-like sounds as if from old cartoons
11. (5:41) Final E - medium-fast; quick percussion with long chords above, bass has all the action, then percussion
