Anathema - Distant Satellites
Label: KScope

Anathema has come a long way since their Death/Doom Metal days to their current Progressive Rock/Metal sound. Keeping the tradition of their latest releases, "Distant Satellites" delivers lush Progressive pieces filled with the raw emotions of the Cavanagh brothers. After taking nearly 7 years between albums, they have gotten into a groove and have released solid albums every two years.

FCC Clean
Play: 2, 4

1. (05:54) - Very similar opening to the opening of their last album. However, this song is quite lush and nicely develops, showing the band's commitment to well-crafted Progressive Rock (4 out fo 5)
2. (05:45) - Completely disarming and chilling track. Excellent jazzy mood and haunting female vocals (5 out of 5)
3. (06:00) - Dramatic piece were the mood gradually increases. Excellent male/female combo. (4 out of 5)
4. (06:29) - Another very mellow and melodramatic piece. Kind of depressing... but we love it. (5 out of 5).
5. (05:22) - Proggy moody song, that complements tracks 1 and 2. (4 out of 5)
6. (06:41) - Experimental Jazzy / lounge type of song. (3.5 out of 5)
7. (03:27) - Even weirder experimental electronic elements and samples, NOT Anathema. (1 out of 5)
8. (02:43) - Atmospheric passage (3 out of 5)
9. (08:17) - WOWOWOWOW with the experimental weirdness, seems like the younger members of the band are having some input. Not too bad, but don't expect anything like the first 5 songs. (2 out of 5)
10. (06:07) - Very mellow and dreamy piece. It does some have samples and crap, but the atmosphere is perfect. (4 out of 5).
