Elephant In The Room
Reviewed by BravoMarco
Guitarist Andrew Tomasello, with a collection of tracks recorded from 2013-2014. Experimental delights from Portland. Slow drone, with effects – emphasis on guitar manipulations. All the more accessible with their shorter play times.
Like: Laura Cetilia, Joan Jeanrenaud, Sarah Davachi - All good. In particular: 2,4,5,9
No FCC’s (Instrumentals)
1) Disappearing (3.14) Squirrely & squeaky sounds on a sound bed of almost upbeat experimental.
2) Dirge For The Winter (3.45) A darker journey. Bleak cello drone. Marvelous.
3) Maybe It’s Just Broken (4.48) Effected sound – scratched & punctured until the last minute. Nice harmonies in the background.
4) My Lungs Are A Rotten Sponge (4.46) Moodier & deliberate. Slow quiet angst.
5) Smile In The Morning (2.58) A slightly happier feel than the previous - still quite pensive.
6) Curse Of The Expectations (4.20) Guitar driven – Gutsy & forceful yet stays within the mood of the previous tracks.
7) Computer Culture (1.23) Disjointed lively synth based take on things.
8) Elephant In The Room (6.04) Slow strumming with spacey washed out effects.
9) America St, 02903 (5.44) Slow careful drone with all the necessary ingredients. Pretty much prefect example.
