Palm Wine Revisited

Second release from Canadian indie folk twin sisters. They create such a nice sound, from upbeat to ballads. A mixture of mellow ambient moods flows on this release. This album is inspired by This Mortal Coil’s release of 1984 “It’ll End In Tears” – Which in itself, is more than enough to like this release. Nothing quite to the standard of “Song to the Siren” - But, getting close. This is real quality & full of character. The steel drum accompaniment is used just enough to intrigue. All pretty good: Loving: 2,3,4,6
No FCC’s

1) Palm (0.34) A lovely soft intro giving hints at some of the glory to come.
2) Braid. Wind Is Coming (4.48) Like a cheery “Portishead”, an all round strong track & perhaps the most accessible. Male vocals in background & that added steel sound all add to create depth to this mild paced dancey number. Spoken word at the finish is a nice touch.
3) Reality (2.33) Distorted vocals over a deeply mellow spiritual style atmospheric sound.
4) The Grass Harp (5.47) Vast folk ballad with a constant beat wrapped up in that classic 60’s manner. The highlight.
5) Palm 11 (1.05) Slightly more eerie snippet. Longer version next time please…
6) Apophenia (3.08) The vocal talent shines through on this soft choral number, gently builds momentum.
7) Palm 22 (O.43) Intro for the following track.
8) What Life Must I Lead (3.06) Steel percussion & voice. Weakest for me.
9) Black Milk Instrumental (5.07) Moodier ballad. With a fuller sound at times.
10) Palm Wine Revisited (4.39) Could have worked as an Experimental track if it was stripped down. Dark instrumental with the full gamut of instruments on display.
