Pod Tune
Whale / Human Collaborative Music Project
Pod Labs
Pod Tune is an inspired collaboration between humpback whales and acclaimed ambient composers from around the world. Pod Tune weaves together the ethereal beauty of the whale song with human instrumentation and voices to create an original and accessible, serene and textural ambient compilation. They are all well constructed, pick your flavor
***1. (5:28) Loscil: Haunting whale song whistles and creaks along with beautiful resonant haunting otherworldly ambient music
****2. (5:38) Roly Porter feat. Cynthia Miller: Grand, dark almost ominous ambient buildups. Bass (stringed?), creaks, fuzz, ambient piano. Whales sounds really emerge prominently out of this
**3. (4:17) Uģis Prauliņš: Very rhythmic whale groans and moans and then very pretty dreamy vibey synths. A little bit strange juxtaposition but it works. Gets a little bit like Four Tet’s beeps and bloops
**4. (4:40) Mikael Jorgensen: Fuzzy, buzzy, whirring whale noises and sounds over glowing ambient sound slowly intensifying. Dreamy soft noise beautiful ambience
**5. (4:19) Christina Vantzou: Starts ominous develops beautiful touches and dark grandeur. Faint sample
*6. (5:37) Jacob Kierkegaard: Eerie wind whistling and become ambient noise wall of sound that starts to mimic sound of whale drone while whale sounds float all around. Definitely one of weirder, less accessible (but great) ones. “Listening to whales invites me to the abyss of myself.” Deep sea deep.
**7. (5:24) li daiguo: Percussive noises from fingers on strings and whale noises, eventually melody comes in, cool. Whale are humming along to melodic folk tune.
8. (5:25) Eric Holm: Very ominous whales being very rumbly and bassy, hushed voices and dark ambient. Deep underwater chasms and simple tribal percussion
9. (6:03) Mia Hsieh: New age female voices harmonizing drone with effects and whale sounds. Pretty and uplifting .
10. (3:30) William Basinksi: Whales, water noises lovely loops of cello? vocals? something not really distinguishable but pretty and a little weird
*11. (5:44) SUGIZO: Synth flutes and whales on echo decay, bladerunnercore laser beams. Think whales + Vangelis
12. (4:06) Greg Ellis: Rhythmic Indian trance chill dance music with whales
*13. (3:54) Geasong: Whales, female vocal loops with cello. Beautiful
***14: (5:18) John X Volaitis & Earthstar Continuum: Whales stretched out and droning, subtle female vocal, big rhythmic rumbly bass and tribal percussion, keyboards up and down. Very Cool Experience
