Letu Sinega
Reviewed by BravoMarco
Ethiopian producer E.R. (Ethiopian Records – Endeguena Mulu) with a selection of local sounds interwoven with a UK inspired dubby electronica pulse.
All good tracks, heavy on the effected samples, with traditional beats put through the dryer (or mixer). Sections of sound are just sublime, it does get busy at times for me, although not overly so. Bordering dance & experimental with the added elegance of that traditional flavour.
No detectable FCC’s
1) Wede Tshehaye Guzo (7.33) Infectious beat with haunting backing – Pace drops off after 5mins, leaving for a more sedate finale.
2) Letu Sinega (8.01) Repetitive mellow trance, full of ambient lushness. Beat picks up with the more traditional sounds & effected keys / vocals.
3) Running Shoes (6.16) Chill out style tinged with that mysterious quality of less traditional Western sounds. Disjointed at times, yet manages to stay smooth. It’s a head nodder alright. The last minute is a thing of beauty; it’s a mild wobbly bass house classic, with marvelous manipulated vocals.
4) Terra Firma (7.10) Nice atmospheric quality to build then the perfect balance between the cultures. Mid paced / fades half way then back up to pace. Idan Raichel uses a similar sound for his Ethiopian influenced tracks.
