This is Reflection’s third lp. I love it! They mix the best of djent, metalcore, post-hardcore, and some Coldplay-esque melodic parts for a sound that is familiar but exciting. The unclean vocals remind me a bit of Mike Hranica from Devil Wears Prada, while the clean vocals remind me more of Miss May I. The songs are mostly mid-tempo with a good balance between melodies and chugging, and the lyrics are introspective and thoughtful. They also use some really nice affects on the vocals. Class A work here!
RIYL Sworn In, TDWP, Miss May I, “intelligent” metal with introspective lyrics
Standouts: 1, 3, 2, 6, 9
FCC: 4, 5, 7, 8
1 - Some nice djent guitar on the chorus but with melodic backing. Beautiful
2 - Deathcore start with bobcat vocals, later slows down but never stops building
3 - Great vocal effects, some slow melodramatic parts, and a really nice deathcore drumming section
4 - Mathy beginning, mixes in some djent/thrash elements “Tongue-tied by the language of lies”
5 - Heavy djent, very Sworn In, great variety of screaming styles
6 - mellow atmospheric intro with clean vocals, more mainstream metalcore sound
7 - Super heavy djent, (another one like Sworn In), but with some weird background effects
8 - “Funky” djent, mid-tempo grinder, crazy drum fill in the middle, messed up jagged rhythm
9 - Black metal drumming at start, mathy riffing, melodic post-hardcore chorus
10 - Ambient beginning, far away anguished vocals, gets murky and slow, then dissipates to piano last 1:20
