Joe Driscoll and Sekou Kouyate WORLD
Faya 2014
US-born Driscoll (speaks English, no French) and Kouyate (Guinea, speaks French, little English) collaborate by combining Driscoll’s rap, production, and songwriting talents with Kouyate’s electrified kora (West African harp…considered the JIMI HENDRIX of the kora). Can sound like hip-hop, funk, soul, and Afrobeat. Really talented combo. Driscoll kind of sounds like Matisyahu when he raps.
FCC Clean Recommended Tracks: 3,4,8,9
*1: Tanama 3:29 energetic drums and kora instrumental….grooooovy
2: Passport 3:47 makes you want to dance to that phat bass…a bit like pop music
**3: Faya 3:37 hip-hop and funky with a darker and more serious sound
***4: Lady 3:38 70s guitar riff with spoken word/rap and kore jams…WOOOO get up!
5: Ghetto Many 4:10 pretty songwriting with good harmonies
*6: Birnakely 3:18 beatbox beat with African and English lyrics and fuzzed guitar
7: Wonamati 3:11 funky politically driven hip hop jam
**8: New York 3:25 Matisyahu-esque beat with some dope kore
**9: Zion 3:32 feel the true meaning of their collaboration…a campfire jam
10: Faya (Dub Remix) 3:50 a clubby-sounding DUB remix Evan Petkov 11/2015
